Last summer, I answered David Cameron’s call for people with real-life experience to step up and enter politics.   My work as a criminal barrister with police officers, victims and Judges means that I see the consequences of crime, addiction, social exclusion and anti-social behaviour day-by-day.   I understand at first hand the effects of crime on victims and local communities, and the costs to the taxpayer.   I accepted the challenge and put my name forward.

Since then, I have been honoured to be shortlisted for five seats across the country – Devizes, Macclesfield, Orpington, Salisbury and Stratford-on-Avon – all of which have their own distinct issues and all deserving strong voices to represent them in Parliament.   I have met and listened to nurses, volunteers, police officers, pensioners, teachers, shopkeepers, soldiers, young people trying to find work, national business leaders, Magistrates, doctors, councillors and, of course, hundreds of Conservative activists doing their bit for their constituencies.   I’ve sent letters and “In Touch” emails to scores of party members and members of the public, drafted leaflets, given radio and TV interviews, driven well over a thousand miles and supported rural pubs serving fine pub lunches.

That was before the General Election, during which I campaigned with other activists to secure Conservative victories in constituencies in the South West, North West, South East, Midlands and London.

Now it’s back to the day job, prosecuting criminals.

As a life-long Conservative, I will do all that I can to help David Cameron’s government make our country a better place for the decent majority to live and work.
